This has saved me so much with thrifting and ordering books when I'm not looking at my bookshelf. I wish it had a way to make a list of what I need to buy, but otherwise this is the only app I'll ever need for my books!
Shady in how they trick you into subscribing. I had no idea until I was charged.
I have been using this app to manage not only my personal library but also larger collections of associates. I would highly recommend. The barcode scan feature, however, seems to not be working correctly the past couple of weeks. I’ve tried three new books and it just can’t be a coincidence that none of them will scan. Especially with recent publications. Is there a way to fix this?
I purchased the bundle with MusicBuddy with primary intention of tracking & organizing music collection. Only a good bit later I remembered the other piece of bundle for books. Over the years I’ve acquired an ever growing collection of physical books plus growing collections of Audible audio titles, Kindle & Apple ebooks. It’s nice to be able to track by type. Additionally, other cool features include “wishlist”, borrowed, & loaned lists. It’s a great app & would absolutely be on my shortlist of true “keepers”. Many apps come & go over time - for me, this one stays.
Not intuitive at all for my purposes. I bought this iOS app because of a reviewer stating they used it with google drive…. Not any better than bookplayer so far.
I just scanned my first book: The Confessions of Saint Augustine. For publisher it says “National Geographic”!? The book is a Signet Classic published by New American Library, a division of Penguin. As this is the first book I’ve scanned with the app, I’m wondering how often this happens? Still trying to figure out how to edit it. Every time I touch publisher, it returns to the main page.
I am using this okay, but I have to put up with flaws in the interface that make the workflow difficult. For instance, When an ISBN fails to scan the app doesn’t allow you to continue with trying to scan, you have to start over selecting the menu again. Minor but disruptive to workflow. I have problems with the camera on my iPhone 12 Max Pro not focusing automatically like other apps do, having selected “Auto-Select” in the “Close-Range Barcode Scanning” setting. This is a mostly useful app, but I would prefer a bit more useful interface for my workflow.
I like the app, but will now only use on one device at a time after having severe problems with syncing with iCloud. There is an error nearly every time I try to sync, plus I have had new data overwritten with older data. It seemed to work at first, but problems began after a couple weeks of use.
First of all, I love this app because once you buy it, it just works without requiring a subscription to access basic functionality. It’s very easy to use, the design is intuitive, you can customize things extensively, and it’s easy to export your collection to PDF or CSV formats. The only complaint I can think of is the database it references when you can an ISBN isn’t always accurate. I occasionally need to correct some data like the publisher or genre. No big deal. And if it’s not in the database, it’s easy to add your own entries. Highly recommended.
This is by far the best library organizing app I have ever seen in my entire life. not only is it helping me to organize my book in an easy manner is also very fun to see the books being loaded into my library so easily. The best part about this app for me is to see the cover of all my books displayed in the library app. now I can select which book I want to read and make an organized reading list. Thank you so much for creating this app for booklovers.
BookBuddy is a perfect app for your mobile device. It is easy to use, offers a wide variety of ways to sort your Library, record your personal reviews, and best of all, it downloads a summary of every book from online. Thus, you can quickly read a summary of the last book you’ve read in a series before starting the latest release. It even includes a separate wish list where you can keep track of the books you want to read. The companion MovieBuddy app is equally effective at building a library of all the movies you own in whatever format they exist in (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, Digital, etc).
Absolutely worth the money. I love having my home library at my fingertips.
I am loving it so far. I haven’t purchased any duplicates since getting all of my current books loaded. I would love an option to sync my Kindle, Apple Books, Audible, etc instead of needing a csv to import.
With so many book lovers, you would think there would be several great library inventory apps. Sadly there are very few. After using and loving the Music Buddy pro app I decided to give Book Buddy a chance. I am happy to say that Book Buddy does have all the key features I’m looking for in it’s handling of books in my library and the ability to share the sand dataset between my wife and I so either of us can make updates or scan more books into the app. It does a tremendous job on most recently printed books. This was a must for us. We both have ADHD so we’ve frequently buy the same book twice because we hadn’t added the book to our previous manual entry app. This app makes it easy to add at time of purchase and syncs right up on the spouses phone. We say buying dupes, is paying our ASHD tax. With book buddy we no longer have that stress in our lives. There are still improvements that can be made. A book unlike music or videos is likely to have had multiple printings by different companies in different formats with different covers. It’s nigh impossible to know identify every possible variant. Books also go back way past the invention of barcodes or even ISBN registration. No app has an automated solution for that but Book Buddy makes it easy for me to capture the data and add my own pictures of my cover when the database located version of a book was slightly different.
I highly recommend teachers get this app! I use this app to organize my read-a-loud books, not the ones the students touch. However, you can use the app to check books out to your students (or colleagues!) The app is SUPER easy. Yes, I paid for the upgraded version after testing out the free version. I love adding tags. It helps me recall what my intention was when I purchased the book. I also have created tags associated with my TPT purchases and the TPT seller’s name. This way, if I want read a specific book to the class, I know if it also goes with an SEL, social studies, reading comprehension, or art lesson.
I love this App but it needs an ereader/Kindle option
I have the book, music, & movie apps & they are all awesome! One request please: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE develop a game inventory app for board games, etc!!
It’s great to have a place where all my books are listed and in order. I only wish that I could also used it on my desktop.
This app offers an excellent method for managing your personal library. It’s equipped with a wealth of functionalities tailored for books you’ve finished reading as well as those on your to-read list. No subscription required. One time low fee for the Pro Version. Among the various apps of this kind that I’ve tested, this one stands out as the superior choice.
I love this app. Amazing. NOW. Let make it even more powerful! I wish for something like this app but for other collectible items. I have the movie and book app. I wish it was all in one online catalog to share. And if I could add my other collectibles. 1000 out of 10. It’s hard to keep track when I can’t scan Funko pop or collectible figures into an app. It would be nice to categories and keep proper track like this has for my books. You can do it by image searching on google for a hypothetical app. What I have been doing since I don’t have a tremendous amount of movie is using the movie app to manually add figures. Which has been so helpful but a specific app for this in a massive collective Sharable catalog would be top tier. Something that I can even access and edit from my computer. 🤯 not gonna stop me from using either way 10 out of 10. Add more then 20 out of 10.
I really like the app but it seems it doesn't work for creating a family library as each phone seems to create its own collection. I need an app in which each member of my family can catalog books and add to our single family library.
Used this to catalog my collection of a few thousand books at the start of the pandemic. Didn’t want to move the books, this app allowed me to tag each book with it’s physical location. Have kept up with the new additions. Use on iPad and iPhone. Had one problem with syncing and tech support resolved it right away.
I have over 1,000 books cataloged in in this app, and I’ve never had a single problem with it. It’s a huge help when thrifting for books and keeping track of different aspects of maintaining a large book collection, like loaned out books, which one are signed, the physical quality of the books, etc. My favorite feature is the custom tags you can add. This makes for unlimited organization capabilities. Some of mine are “signed”, “omnibus”, “companion books”, and “bought new”. There’s nothing wrong with this app, literally 5/5 stars.
Love this app as it’s helped me organize my book collection and identify duplicates. Would love syncing to my other devices + more online capability, but other than that its an easy tool and great way to keep track of your personal library. Bar code scanning is super fast and accurate. So good!
In my opinion the best way to keep track of all your books.
I have been searching for a good app to input my home library for about six months. I tried several but this one won out. It has all the right spaces for all the book information I like to input. It is super easy to use and your books can be sorted or tagged in any way you wish. A must have if you love books!
I have been using this app for a while now and love it! There are a couple of improvements I would like to see. 1. I would like it to have the series' name visible in the library without having to open the book details to see it. 2. It would be nice if it would automatically add ALL the genres of books. Thanks for a great app!
Been using the paid version for several years and so appreciate it. I keep a wish list and log the titles I’ve read with a date read and a rating: for those tasks it’s perfect.
I’ve got a lot of e-books, audiobooks, physical books, etc. I appreciate being able to use the app to stay organized and keep track of things. My only complaint is that I was prompted to write a review at least three times in a 15 minute span. I love the app, but would appreciate it if you put a 24 hour timer on requests for reviews once I indicate “maybe later”. If I didn’t find the app so useful, I would’ve made this review much harsher.
Bought this app to catalog an extensive book collection. Most of the books scanned need to be manually input, which is a huge waste of time. There a no point to the app when most of the books are not listed in the ISBN database. Look elsewhere for an app for large collections.
This is a great app. We have book giveaways and need to keep track of books taken by students. Two suggestions: allow for scanning of duplicate books. Whenever students take the same book I have to save the current scanning session and start a new one in order to scan a duplicate. And second, after a few books have been scanned it just stops accepting new scans, so I have to start a new session. However, I love how it just adds all of the books together even though I have to start a new scanning session, and exporting the list is a life saver.
I have been a very satisfied user of all of the developers apps for quite some time, but recently the iCloud synce is broken, and my iPad an phone no longer sync. Have contacted developer and followed instructions to no avail. Developer suggests I have disabled or otherwise altered my sync settings…I have not, and then that apple iCloud itself is to blame. I find this unlikely as no problems ever before and I use iCloud for everything. Further suggested that I use Dropbox instead, which I do not want to do as just another complication and cost. Other developer apps working fine, so I do not see why apple is at fault. Please fix the sync functionality so app is 5 star again.
Book Buddy+ makes cataloging my library so easy!
The PERFECT app to corral all of your reading and listening. Continually being updated but remains both simple and full of features you’ll use. You’ll easily save ten times the price of the Pro version by not buying a duplicate. Search is extraordinary and automatically does whatever word you want (like author’s middle name if it was input) without the need to specify ‘field’. I am SO pleased with this program and have my 6,631 books, audiobooks, and manuscripts easily locatable. Perhaps my best iPhone app buy in 10+ years!
This app allows you to scan barcodes and isbn numbers. You can tract what you’ve read and what’s being borrowed. This is hands down the best book app I’ve used. I’ve experimented with five others. I have a library of over 1000 volumes of rare books that aren’t easily found or cataloged. This is by far the best.
I was an avid Android phone user for many years and used the Book Catalogue app for a longtime, accumulating approx 2200 books in the catalogue. I was convinced to switch t an iPhone but Book Catalogue does not have a iPhone app. I was looking around for an iPhone app and came across BookBuddy. I was amazed that it could import a csv file created by Book Catalogue. This worked very well, and on top of that I would estimate that around 90% of the books had covers supplied for them. It was very easy to find covers for the books that didn’t have them after the import. I must also say how impressed I was with the support I received from BookBuddy, even before I purchased the pro version. This app is well worth the purchase price and I would recommend this 1000%. Thank you. David Billman
I'm a retired English teacher and novice author, so I read and analyze a variety of genres to improve my craft. Book Buddy is affordable and user friendly. Book ISBN codes can be scanned or entered manually, then Book Buddy does the rest! I can add categories such as "Library Loan" or "Cozy" to further organize my personal library. No more carrying lists for long book series as I search for the ones I haven't yet read. This app is a game changer.
We loaded our titles onto the app a couple years ago and it had made it so much easier to keep track of everything. We discovered that we had many multiples (sometime three copies!) sitting in various bookcases. I load every new book that comes into the house as well as often check titles while indulging in wandering through book stores. No more multiple copies. I love this app. If only it could help organize the shelves!
I love this app! It’s a game changer for those of us with a large library of books! The extra for the paid version is easily the best decision I’ve made when buying any app. It’s made my tracking of my library so much easier than ever, PLUS now I know how many unique translations of the Bible I have and exactly all the details about each one as I hunt and search for other unique Bible translations I don’t have to purchase the same ones over and over again. I have all that information in one handle and well organized place! It’s a life changing app for me and my library of unique translations of the English Bible which is well over 250!! I’m thankful and happy!! Mike
Excellent book, well written and researched, a must read
Update 9/2022: Since my original review, I now have nearly 1,500 titles in my collection and BookBuddy is still my favorite iOS and iPadOS app. I was just complaining this morning to my spouse about how some paid app developers (NOT these!) never seem to update their products, even after a major operating system update, like iOS 16. Contrary to that trend, the BookBuddy developers are constantly updating this app with new and requested functionality and features. Every time there is an update, I feel warm inside. Original review: This is by far my favorite iOS/iPadOS app, using it almost daily to catalog my entire collection. While not as extensive as some, I’ve added about 850 titles so far with lots more to go. I’ve added each one manually, since online search frequently pulls in incorrect information uploaded from other sources (not BookBuddy’s fault!). Some features I particularly appreciate are the attention to detail and the amount of information that’s able to be recorded for each book. I am actually considering using the Library of Congress Classification system for my library and this app supports it! If I have any suggestions for the app’s improvement, they would be the following: - Multiple authors per title. This could be extended to translators, editors, etc. Having only one author results in some co-authors being difficult to locate in the database. - BC dates!!!!!! This is a must have, since all my titles published “pre-Jesus” are listed as year 1, with a note at the bottom documenting the correct year. Those with a lot of Plato, Homer, etc. will go crazy. - It would be nice if the Date Added and Purchase Date fields could be stored as year only, consistent with all other date fields. This is my OCD nature coming through, but I’d like to be able to document books I purchased decades ago, but obviously don’t remember the exact dates.
I have been waiting for an app like this for decades. Literally. An amazing database that actually works. Very stable. Allows you to import and export. Recognizes an incredible amount of published material and authors. It's easily customizable to fit your specific needs in the data you want to know and access. Very well thought out and organized. Bravo. The one thing they could do to break it would be to move the databases online and charge a monthly fee. But that would make them into just another crappy scam app. So, please don't. It will ruin everything. I like my information kept local where I can control it. As tempting as it might be, it's a terrible way to do business. No matter how hip it seems to make you look.
I love my book buddy it helps me.
It would be great if the only online source wasn’t Google Books.
Horrible! After loading over 600 books in here. One phone crash and they’re all gone!
This app is an easy to use very powerful and unbelievably useful app for keeping track of books. It’s not expensive it is unbelievably useful for the price just use it and if you don’t like it you can eliminate it and you won’t be out very much money but if you use this program and you are interested in keeping track of books you will love it.
I love this app mostly, but I hate that it is so difficult to back up my library and reload it onto new phones. Having to pay for the app and pay for a cloud service defeats the purpose of buying the app.
I am very thankful for this app that keeps track of my library of books that includes over 1,200 titles. I appreciate that the paid version of the app is only a small flat fee. The features of the app are fantastic and the scanning of ISBN barcodes is much faster than scanning the covers of books, which I tried to do when trying to keep track of my library in goodreads. I also love the wishlist that helps me keep track of book recommendations from friends, books I see but can’t purchase yet, or books I want to be on the lookout for at the next book sale. It is also nice to look up whether I already own a certain book or not. I appreciate all the information it lists about each book and the simple, but helpful organization and categories one can implement. I have recommended Book Buddy + to many friends, many of which try it and love it, too.
Please add the capability to sort by LCC or Dewey asap!
